Childcare costs set to Increase - yahoo 7 News.

Childcare costs are set to increase substantially if recommendations by the federal government are adopted. The government is considering that all childcare staff are TAFE or university qualified and more staff need to be employed to increase staff to child ratio.

Fairfax newspapers have said that the request was made to the government by a panel of 11 childcare professions and development experts.

Kate Ellis - Federal government minister for childcare agrees that new guidelines would better prepare children and was the first step towards a national childcare system. Ms Ellis is considering the panels recommendations that staff - to - child ratio be bossted to at least 1:3 ( one staff memeber to every three children ) for children under 2 years of age and 1:5 two to three years old and 1: 10 for those aged up to five.
